Ziona Chana dies at 76: Head of 'world's largest family' in India's Mizoram state

A 76-year-old man believed to be the head of the world's largest family has died in India's Mizoram state.

Ziona Chana, the head of a religious sect that practiced polygamy, died on Sunday, leaving behind 38 wives, 89 children and 36 grandchildren. A 76-year-old man is the head of the world's largest family who died in the Indian state of Mizoram.

Qion Han, the leader of a religious sect that practices polygamy, died on Sunday, leaving 38 women and 89 children and 36 grandchildren.  This news was also confirmed by Chief Minister of Mizoram, Zoramthanga, who expressed his condolences on Twitter: "This is with a heavy heart. Apparently, Chan suffered from diabetes and hypertension.


A doctor told the PTI news agency that Chan is at home in his village of Baktaung Instagram. On Sunday evening, he was rushed to a hospital, where upon arrival it was determined that he had died.

It's hard to say if Chan is the head of the biggest family in the world, because there are other contenders for the title.

It is also difficult to estimate the exact size of the Chan family. In at least one report, he claims to have 39 wives, 94 children, and 33 grandchildren and one great-grandchild, or 181 people.

While local news sites and reports mention him as the holder of the world record for a large family, it is not clear what the world record is. In addition, it is widely known that this family twice appeared in the popular TV series " Ripley wants to believe or not."

The sect of religion, which provides an opportunity to practice polygamy for men, was founded by Chana's grandfather in 1942.
