On June 29, Delhi Police Cyber Cell registered a Twitter lawsuit against the content of child pornography on their platform. Significantly, on June 26, the National Commission for the Protection of the Child called the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Cyber Cell, Delhi Police regarding the availability of child pornography on Twitter and asked them to file a FIR against the speaker. Delhi Police Cyber Cell has registered a case under POCSO Act and IT Act against Twitter on the basis of a complaint from NCPCR citing the availability of links/ material pertaining to child exploitation.@shankar_news18 shares details.
According to reports, Cyber Cell has registered the case under the POCSO Act & IT Act against Twitter in response to a complaint lodged by the NCPCR with access to links and material related to child abuse. The parent company Twitter INC and its Indian subsidiary Twitter Communication India Pvt. Ltd. is named after MOTO.
This is reported to be the third lawsuit filed on Twitter after it lost legal protection with content published on the platform. In the first two cases, and after many announcements, the company did not take action and turned the authorities around Twitter Inc. and Twitter India. However, in the latter case, the Delhi Police named the two companies to ensure accountability.
The ‘Zubair Stalking Case’ case mentioned in this complaint(ads2)
The complaint was filed by the NCPCR, a case in which Alt New co-founder Zubair was found stalking the girl in question. The complaint reads the way the NCPCR perceived the case and referred it to Delhi police. NCPCR has asked Twitter to take immediate action against Zubair, but its zoo_bear handle is still active on the platform.
The complaint further states that Twitter Communication India Pvt. Ltd. and Twitter Inc. they have been washing their hands of the case and suspect that their colleague is responsible for taking action on this complaint.

In addition, the NCPCR is looking into other complaints about child sexual abuse and online sex sites and social media platforms, including Twitter. The NCPCR found that of the 31 websites reviewed by them, five were related to the Indian subcontinent, and 19 were likely to be from India. Of the many complaints, NCPCR is aware of the CSAM available on Twitter through various handles.
They also realized that these handles will provide links to WhatsApp groups where users can access that content. NCPCR also raised issues via Twitter, allowing 13-year-olds to create an account on the platform.
What is the law against child pornography?
Sections 13 to 15 of the Child Protection Act on Sexual Offenses (POCSO) Act and Section 67 of Information Technology (IT) Act, publishing, browsing, transmitting child pornography is a punishable offense. There is no provision for bail under the POCSO Act.
NCPCR has asked DCP Cyber Cell to register FIR
On June 26, NCPCR official Priyank Kanoongo told ANI that the NCPCR had issued a summons to DCP Cyber Crime and demanded a personal appearance and a copy of the FIR, which would be posted on Twitter. He added, "Twitter has been found to have provided false and misleading answers during the NCPCR's investigation into the existence of the issue of sexual abuse and child abuse, which is a serious crime under the POCSO Act."(ads1)
Significantly, Twitter was repeatedly informed of child pornography on its platform, but no action was taken to curb its content.
A lawsuit against Twitter for showing an inaccurate map of India
Just the other day, Twitter faced a backward attack by showing a distorted map of India in the Careers section of its website. Although the company has removed the map, a platform complaint has already been launched.
According to reports, Bhopal Cyber Cell is registering FIR against Twitter India's Managing Director Manisan Maheshwari under Section 505 of the IT Act after the platform showed a distorted map of India.
