The Indian Army plans to recruit 800 women into the military by recruiting 52 women each year to serve as subordinate officers.
The Indian Army on Saturday recruited dozens of women into the Corps of Military Police, the first time women had joined the military in a non-police class, officials said. Women have been serving as officers in selected branches of the three services since the early 1990's.

"The Corps of Military Police Center & School (CMP C&S) in Bangaluru hosted the first-ever exhibition of 83 female soldiers at the Dronacharya Parade Ground on May 8. The exhibition was held as a milestone in view of all Covid-19 Agreements," the organization said in a statement. Of the three services, the force is the only one to include women as non-commissioned officers.

The women joined the army after 61 weeks of training. The training included aspects related to basic military training, all types of policing and military prisoner management, military activities and skills development including the driving and maintenance of all vehicles and communications signals, the force said.

The force plans to recruit 800 women into the military by recruiting 52 women each year to serve as subordinate officers.

Currently, there are more than 9,000 women serving in the military, navy and military as officers, and the services provide them with many opportunities to increase career advancement. The number of women in the military has grown nearly three times in the last six years.

The military will soon open its airline doors to women managers. To this day, female commanders perform only ground duties on military aircraft. The military air force uses helicopters. The first group of women officers will begin pilot training in July 2021. They will join the top flight operations when they graduate in July 2022.
