Government prioritizes vaccination for drivers of oxygen tankers: AIMTC

The body of Apex AIMTC carriers on Saturday said the central government had acknowledged its need for a significant vaccination for drivers working with liquid oxygen tanks in the midst of the epidemic.

The body of Apex All India Motor Transport Congress (AIMTC) carriers on Saturday said the central government had acknowledged its need to first vaccinate drivers working with tanks containing medical fluids in the midst of the disease.

AIMTC was earlier this month when it met with senior officials from the Department of Trade and Industry to demand the first vaccination of oxygen tank drivers.

"The Department of Road and Highway Transport has considered the need for AIMTC and urged all government transport secretaries to formulate a" special vaccination policy "for water tankers," AIMTC Core Committee Chairman Bal Malkit Singh said in a statement on Saturday.

The department also called on countries to prioritize the admission and treatment of such drivers in hospitals, if they become infected with COVID-19, the statement said.

Needs to encourage drivers of oxygen tanks are also being considered, the organization said, adding that "the government is considering a proposal to provide a financial incentive of Rs 15,000 per air tank driver to operate".

"But no decision has been taken yet (in this regard)," AIMTC said.

The transport council also called on the government to prioritize the drivers of commercial vehicles, including medicines, medical supplies and other necessities to ensure that there is no shortage of such items on the market, the statement said.
