Social media has been asked to "remove all content, references, or mean" Indian variants "of the corona virus from your platform immediately"

The government has asked telecommunications companies to immediately remove any content on their platform that is referred to or referred to as the ‘Indian variant’ of coronavirus, with the aim of curbing the spread of false information about Covid-19.

Digital platforms have said they have received the latest advice.

On Friday, the IT department wrote to all media outlets emphasizing that the World Health Organization (WHO) does not support the term "Indian Variant" and the unique B.1.617 coronavirus in any of its reports.

A notice issued in this regard by the IT department states that a "false online statement" is being circulated, meaning that the 'Indian variant' of the coronavirus is spreading to all countries.

The IT department said the matter had already been clarified by the Department of Health and Family Welfare on May 12, 2021 in a press statement.

Social media has been asked to "remove all content, references, or mean" Indian variants "of the corona virus to your platform immediately".

Earlier, the Department of Technology and Information Technology had issued advice on preventing false stories / misinformation about coronavirus on social media.
