SpaceX will set up low-cost channels within Google's data centers that connect to Starlink satellites, enabling faster and safer Internet services via Google Cloud.
Google has secured a cloud service agreement with Elon Musk's SpaceX, which has launched a number of Starlink satellites to provide faster internet access, it said Thursday.

SpaceX will set up low-cost channels within Google's data centers that connect to Starlink satellites, enabling faster and safer Internet services via Google Cloud, the search official said.

The service is expected to be available in the second half of 2021 for business clients, the company said.

The deal comes at a time when the demand for cloud computing services has increased, with players such as Microsoft Corp and Amazon.com Inc taking over the market. Cloud companies have also entered the telecommunications sector, due to the excess need for 5G connectivity.

Google's cloud business account is about 7% of total revenue, according to a recent profit report.

Last October, Microsoft won a similar agreement from SpaceX to connect its Azure computing platform to Starlink.

Privately held SpaceX, now famous for its reusable rockets and astronaut capsules, is ramping up satellite production for new project Starlink, a growing constellation of hundreds of internet-beaming satellites that Musk hopes will generate enough revenue to support fund SpaceX's interplanetary goals.
