West Bengal Governor Jagdeep Dhankar visits Cooch Behar to meet the victims of post-poll violence but TMC protests against the step of the governor. The handful of TMC workers in the Dinhata district in North Bengal protested over the step of the state governor.
CM Mamta Banerjee and Governor Jagdeep Dhankar exchanged strong letters on Wednesday evening. While Banerjee accused Dhankhar of violating the rules by arranging a visit to Cooch Behar without the permission of the state, the letter even accused Banerjee of not showing compliance with the Constitution.
During the trip, Dhankhar was accompanied by Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) Cooch Behar Lok Sabha Nisith Pramanik and the party's regional unit president Malati Rava Roy. They took the governor to some districts where people purportedly stated that TMC workers were attacked them and purloin their homes after the announcement of the results of the May 2 polls.
On Thursday afternoon, about a dozen TMC workers chanted slogans "go-back" in Dhankhar in the city of Dinhata. They were chased off the road by local police.
“This is a serious security failure. This is the total collapse of the rule of law. I never imagined this would happen,” the governor of West Bengal heard reprimanding the police officers over their duty. Later, he even reportedly got out of his car a stood in the middle of the road.
Therefore, these kinds of practices and events in West Bengal are Condemnable as the Governor has total right to question the State and its functioning as it is recognized as their constitutional duty. The state is not cooperating with Governor as the Governor has to show the mirror to the government.
