Delhi lockdown again extended till May 24: CM Arvind Kejriwal

Delhi has been seeing an unmistakable decline in Covid-19 infections over the past few days. However, the retreat rate is still above 5% - a level that is considered safe by the WHO.

Delhi Prime Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Sunday said the ongoing closure in Delhi had been extended until May 24 morning. Previously it was supposed to end at 5 a.m. Monday, May 17th.

On April 19, a weekend clock law in Delhi was overturned and banned from the next day due to a shocking increase in Covid-19 cases in the capital that left the city's health infrastructure. Since then, it is the fourth time lockdown closures have been extended.

"The temporary closure has been extended to 5am next Monday," the prime minister said during a visit to the Covid-19 health facility built outside the GTB public hospital.

Over the past few days, Delhi has been seeing a steady decline in Covid-19 infections. However, the retreat rate is still above 5% - a level that is considered safe by the WHO.

“The recovery rate is rising. And the quality level is declining. In the last 24 hours, about 6,500 new cases were recorded in Delhi and the quality has dropped to 10% - down from 11% the day before. We cannot disappoint our security guards now, ”Kejriwal said, adding that he hoped the situation would improve in another week.

The Delhi Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) has issued a formal order regarding the extension of the lockdown by 12:30 pm. "Covid-19 situation in Delhi has been reviewed and [it has been noted] that good Covid-19 cases and quality of life are still high and [sleeping] beds (oxygen beds / ICU beds) in Covid have been donated - 19 government hospitals and private and high-quality old age homes, ”says the directive, which explains the reason for extending the project.

Dr Lalit Kant, former Head of the Epidemiology and Infectious Diseases Unit at the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), said: "Delhi is still facing shortages of hospital beds, ICUs, ventilators. The government must use policies to ensure" circles. So lockdown closure is important. We can't stop the guards right now. "

As of Sunday afternoon, there were 15,340 people (66%) of 23,213 oxygen beds in the Covid-19 city wards. Of the 6,415 beds in the ICU, of which 5,728 (89%) were used, the government's hospital bed plan showed.

While no new limit has been set this week, no existing limit has been set. Ordinary movement of people and economic activities is not permitted in the construction of departments without the release of those who perform essential functions and the sale of essential goods. Metro services have been suspended and public buses have been asked to cater only to key service providers. Asked if the Delhi Municipality service would continue, the prime minister said: "The boundaries will continue as they are this week."
