Here’s how to get admission in IITs without clearing JEE Advanced

From 12th pass students, those having undergraduate degrees to students already enrolled in a BE to BTech course, those who want to study something beyond BTech and have an interest in design or humanities - there is a unique way to get admission in IITs without clearing JEE.

UCEED: Students intending to study at IIT can apply for a standard undergraduate entry exam for a project better known as UCEED. The applicant must have passed section 12 to qualify to apply. Those who pass UCEED are eligible for admission to BDes courses at IIT and other institutions. The test is divided into two parts where the second part has a drawing phase. Those wishing to apply for postgraduate (PG) will have to cancel CEED.

GATE: Those who miss the opportunity to enter IIT at the undergraduate (UG) level and have PG entry exams called the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE). Students who cancel the exam will be able to apply for MTech courses and will be able to get a job in the public service (PSUs). GATE is a specialized exam and has a separate paper for various practical courses. Humanities students can apply for the same.

HSSEE: IITs also offer accreditation for the five-year integrated Master of Arts (MA) programs through the Humanities and Social Sciences Entrance Examination (HSSEE). The first two years of the curriculum are common to all learners after which they enter two streams. The distribution of streams will be based on the preferences of the students, their academic performance during the first three semesters, and the availability of seats under each stream.

CAT: Most IITs have gone beyond providing engineering-based courses only and are moving to institutions of various fields. Therefore, students who wish to study in IIT not only to study engineering but a business aspect or consider starting a career may receive admission to various courses through their management schools or departments. While each IIT has its own procedures for admission to management school, those who abolish CAT are often included in the list of interviews and other rounds.

UGC-NET: Research is an important part of education in IIT. Those interested in research can apply with a specific professor and submit their proposal to them. Applicants with new ideas and those who have removed the UGC NET program or other research trial are also eligible to apply for research programs at IIT.

IIT JAM: The Joint Admission Test for Masters (JAM) is a standard entry test designed for admission to IITs and IISc Bangalore. Those who drop out of the exam are eligible for admission to MSc, economics masters, Joint MSc-PhD, MSc-PhD degree, and other postgraduate degree programs and integrated PhD courses.
If you are already an engineering student: IITs have partnerships with NITs where students can study at IIT as part of their final year. For example, IIT-Delhi is affiliated with NIT Srinagar, Warangal etc. where a student who received a CGPA of 8.00 at the end of their sixth semester, will be able to apply for a project in summer or winter and complete a fourth year in IIT-Delhi. These students can enter directly into the PhD after completing their research, depending on merit.

Other Online courses: IITs offer online certificates and degrees to students not only on their online platform The National Advanced Learning Technology Program (NPTEL) is open to students enrolled at any university or college, IITs, interns any knowledgeable but also original concept - or online courses offered by IIT-Madras. The course has no age limit and students who have passed the 12th grade can also take it. After completing class 12, students will have to pursue basic education while those with a college degree can apply directly to the diploma level. Comes with many login and exit options. One graduates from IIT-Madras after completing all studies.
