The arson attack took place on Sunday afternoon in a village in the Rangpur district of Pirganj, about 255 kilometers from here, reports bdnews24.com.
Police rushed to the fishery as it was heated over rumors that a young Hindu man in the area had "disgraced religion" on Facebook, which was found to be fake news, Superintendent Police Mohammad Mohammad Kamruzzaman told reporters.
"The incident happened just after 10 last night but firefighters have been able to control the blaze for a short time (and) the situation is now under full control," he said.
No victims were reported dead, police said. A total of 52 suspects have been arrested during the search for more suspects under the "fighting" program in collaboration with other security forces, he added.
The arson incident took place at a time of civil unrest over allegations of defamation in the Durga Puja area of Cumilla which led to attacks on Hindu temples and clashes between protesters and police in Cumilla, Chandpur, Chattogram, Boxing Bazar, Bandargan, Charmon, Choul and Ice.
Many people have been arrested in connection with the attacks and the spread of public hate on social media, the report said.
Four suspected Muslims were killed in Haziganj, the worst of the violence, on Wednesday and Thursday, when the body of a devout Hindu man was found in a lake near Begumbanj in the Noakhali region.
