Farmers Union Samyukta Kisan Morch (SKM) writes to PM
Narendra Modi over resuming the dialogue between the government and the Farmers
Union. The Farmers Union leaders want the government to repeal three farm laws
and demanding a legal guarantee over the MSP (Minimum Support Price).
Around nine farm leaders of SKM written to PM in the
joint letter and presented their concerns. The farm leaders also warned the
government that if they didn’t get a satisfactory or positive response from the
government they will intensify their movement. The intensification of the
movement begins with the “national day of protest” on May 26 which also marks
the completion of six months of the struggle.
The last talk between the government and farmers was held
on January 22 which marks the 11th round of talk. In their last meet, the
government presented an offer to put on the three farm laws, but the union
declined the offer and said that they will not talk until the government
becomes ready to repeal these three farm laws.
Meanwhile, the farm unions have urged the government to
repeal the three farm laws and presented their concern as due to the Covid-19
situation many farmers got infected and many of them died while protesting. The
farmers union said that they will not give up as it is the “matter of their
life and death and for their future generations.”
Therefore, the country is suffering through the intense
situation of the Pandemic. In these crucial times, the farm leaders need to
call off the protest for the sake of other farm protestors and the government
must focus on the intensified Covid-19 situation in the country.
