JEE-Main sessions to be held from July 20 due to second wave of pandemic


The third and fourth session of JEE-Main, the all-India engineering entrance exam, will be held from July 20 to 25 and July 27 to August 2 respectively, the National Testing Agency announced on Tuesday.

These sessions were originally scheduled to be held in April and May but were postponed due to the second wave of the pandemic. The first two sessions of JEE-Main 2021 were already completed in February and March. 

If students wish to do so they are free to take the test four times, the best score is used for ranking and admission.

Announcing the NTA's decision in a video statement, Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal 'Nishank' said, "Candidates who could not apply for the entrance test earlier are being given a golden opportunity to apply again.

The registration window is being opened for new applicants, while those candidates who had already registered for the April and May sessions can also make changes in their applications. Already 6.8 lakh students had registered for the April exam and 6.09 lakh for the May session.

Responding to the minister's tweet on the exam, several students complained that the gap of two days between the two sessions was too short, and sought a gap of 15 days to allow enough time for preparation.

NTA said applicants for the third session will have to submit their forms between July 6 and 8, while those for the fourth session can apply from July 9 to 12, the NTA said.

The third session will be conducted only for BE and B.Tech candidates while the fourth session will be conducted for B.Arch and B.Planning as well as engineering candidates.

COVID-19 Protocol

To ensure that the COVID-19 safety and distancing protocols are maintained, the NTA has increased the number of testing centers in 232 cities from 660 to 828 centers in 334 cities. 

All examination centers will have open windows and fans for air circulation instead of air conditioning. Candidates who have already registered will be allowed to change the city of their choice to appear in the examination.

The exam is an entrance test for admission to undergraduate engineering and architecture courses at the National Institute of Technology and other central, state, and private institutions, and is also used as an eligibility test for JEE-Advanced, which is for the elite There is an entrance exam.
