Nigerian government expressed doubts about Twitter's mission in the country, accusing the U.S. technology company of double standards and supporting the secessionists in the west African country.
The Nigerian government on Wednesday expressed skepticism about Twitter's intentions in the country, blaming the US technology company for double standards and supporting the private sector in the West African country.

Information and Culture Minister Lai Mohammed swipe on Twitter after deleting a tweet by President Muhammadu Buhari who issued a warning to the perpetrators of violence in Nigeria.

"We have a country that we will rule over, and we will do our best. The intention of Twitter in Nigeria is very suspicious, they have intentions. The purpose of Twitter in Nigeria is very suspicious," Mohammed said.

In a deleted tweet, Buhari had referred to a 30-month civil war in 1967-1970, warning "those who want the government to fail" to stop fueling problems.

"Most of those who are misbehaving today are too young to be aware of the devastation and loss of life that took place during the Nigerian civil war.

Twitter removed the presidency on Wednesday, following criticism from some netizens. However, Mohammad doubts Twitter's rule.

"Twitter may have its own rules, not a general rule. If Mr. President, anywhere in the world feels very bad and worried about a particular situation, he is free to express such views," he said. The social media service, he said, ignored the tweets of leading secessionists in Nigeria.

"When people set fire to police stations and killed police officers in Nigeria when End SARS, a high-level social organization, on Twitter, was about the right to protest. But when the same thing happened in the United States, there was a coup," Mohammed said. .
