A massive explosion occurred in the center of Shiyan city of China, leaving at least 12 people dead and more than 100 injured. The blast devastated the local food market and damaged many residential buildings.
The blast, which centered in the food market, shook the city in Hubei province on Sunday morning.
Pictures from the internet that have been circulating online show that the market is slowly falling apart with a large hole left in the ground, suggesting that leaked gas had accumulated under the building long before the explosion.
Roads around the market were littered with debris dumped outside the building, leaving only its concrete vessel.
Many residential buildings in the area have been damaged by the blast, with their windows shattered and their walls smashed to pieces.
