Assam MLC Akhil Gogoi found acquitted from the NIA case

The president of the Raijor Dal, and a MLC from Sibasagar, Assam. Akhil Gogoi, was acquitted of all charges by the National investigation Agency (NIA) court here on Tuesday, in one of the cases against him for his alleged involvement in the anti-CAA riots cum protest (Citizenship Amendment Act)  in the state in December 2019. 

The well-known farmer and activist, Gogoi has been in custody ever since. The NIA filed a case against him where it has brought in two of the cases against him, which is one of the Chabua police station in Dibrugargh, and for the second part of case is in Chandmari in Guwahati, among the various sections of the IPC and the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Amendment Act. It was an Chabua case in which was quitted of all the charges and rest will continue.

"The Chabua, the hearing has taken place, and Akhil Gogoi and others, Bhupen Gogoi and Jagjit Gohain, have been released because they have not been able to prove that its Gogoi;s guilt," Gogoi's lawyer, Krishna Gogoi told reporters. 

"The case against Phukan will now be heard in a Dibrugarh sessions court. Hearing in the Chandmari case is still on," he further stated. Gogoi will not receive a guarantee to Chandmari. 

The activist of Raijor Dal of the previous year, and won it from seat in the constituent Assembly elections of Assam held in March-April.
