New Delhi: Manoj Bajpayee starrer Amazon Prime Video's web series The Family Man 2 was eagerly awaited by its fans.
Its trailer was released on May 19 at nine in the morning and it was reported that the series would be streamed on June 4. Fans broke down when the trailer was released.
The second season features Telugu actress Samantha Akkineni as the main villain. Due to this, the South Indian fans were waiting for the series, but as the trailer went viral on social media, the controversy started taking shape and with The Family Man season 2 Samantha Shame On You, Family Man 2 Against Tamils and LTTE Trends started happening.
These hashtags suggest that The Family Man 2 has angered Tamil audiences.
While many users demanded an apology from directors Raj Nidimoru and Krishna DK (Raj & DK), several users threatened to boycott Amazon Prime Video.
Why is the Tamil community angry?
Some users feel that the Tamil community is militant through Samantha's character Raji. The trailer shows Raji fighting for a separate state for the Tamils, which is very similar to the LTTE movement. This annoys users on social media.
One user wrote that I am surprised to see Samantha playing this role. Some users have questioned the connection between LTTE and ISIS.
The release was postponed to avoid controversy
The series was scheduled to debut on 12 February. However, after the controversy and police case of Saif Ali Khan's web series Tandav released in January, Amazon Prime officials became very cautious and took time to ensure that the Family Man 2 had any potentially objectionable facts. It should be removed in advance so that disputes can be avoided later.
According to media reports, season 2 has been given a clean chit by Amazon Prime's team without significant cuts. According to a report by Bollywood Hungama, season 2 has been cut a bit here and there, but no major cuts have been made.
