The counting of the votes in West Bengal is still underway. Channels claimed that the Mamta Banerjee registered victory over Suvendu Adhikari at Nandigram by a slim margin of 1200 votes. Later it was amended by declaring the win of Suvendu Adhikari over Mamta. Entire day channels were playing with the numbers seems struggling with figures. Yet, the final declaration has not been announced for the State of Bengal. Nandigram witnessed the most powerful war between the 2 West Bengal Biggies has finally come to an end.
The counting of the votes is moving slowly due to Covid19 protocols as some of the votes are given through the postal ballot system. Covid 19 protocols are being strictly followed during counting resulting in slow down of the process and causing a delay in declaration of winners, reported by EC and Media Houses. EC is also not in a position to spell out the announcement of the results.
Nandigram is the town that catapulted the Mamta and Suvendu’s carrier in politics through famous farmers' land rights protest was led by both leaders. The status of TMC in the protest aroused drastically while confronting the Left-led Bengal. The two stalwarts Adhikari and Mamta were competitors at the Nandigram constituency having a perfect influence over the people.
Finally, it seems that the perplexity is going to end and Mamta-led TMC is going to win the Bengal. It is pertinent here to trace the history of the Bengal election which witnessed thousands of riots, unrest, and disturbance during campaigning and elections. It is an unhealthy practice that also desires attention to create a congenial and healthy environment.
