China on Thursday expressed grave concern over the deadly conflict between Israel and the Palestinians and called on the UN Security Council to do more to dwindle tensions and work for a two-state solution.
On Friday the Security Council will be going to hold
another emergency meeting after Tunisia, Norway and China called for the body
to be reunited despite the United States, which serves as an associate for
Israel. Earlier emergency meeting held Wednesday ended without agreement on a
joint statement due to US opposition, diplomats stated.
"China expresses a high degree of concern regarding
the current situation between Palestine and Israel," said Foreign Ministry
spokeswoman Hua Chunying, adding that China was ready to write and distribute
the statement on behalf of the Security Council. "However, due to
international sanctions, no agreement has been reached so far," Hua said.
The worst fighting is recorded in the past seven years has killed around 83 people in Gaza and seven in Israel since Monday. Beijing is often rebuked by the United States for making Security Council quash the statements many times including a military coup in Myanmar.
Therefore, the conflict between Israel and Palestine
terrorism is slowly approaching gaining international attention as the United
States and China again started confronting each other in UN Security Council.
Israel is supported by the USA whereas China seems to support Palestine
indirectly through the influence of the UN Security Council. The UN is also
criticized many times for backing China.
