The Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) has launched a special campaign to settle all GST refunds pending by the end of the month. The 15-day refund for goods and services (GST) is in the same ongoing drive campaigns organized by CBIC for customs refunds and tax refund claims.

In advising all Commissioners of Central Tax formations, CBIC said there was a need to focus on timely issuance of all pending GST refund claims in order to provide immediate assistance to businesses, especially MSMEs, in the difficult times of the second wave of the COVID-19 epidemic. .

"It is hereby recommended that a 'Special GST Refund Disposal Drive' be introduced by all Central Tax entities between 15 May 2021 and 31 May 2021 to process and dismiss all pending GST refund claims. first, "he said.
The CBIC further stated that the GST Act provides for 15 days for issuing a consent or deficit invitation and 60 days for dismissing refund claims without any interest on payment of interest.

"However, it is expected that all Central Tax agencies will take all GST refund claims pending consideration and try to dismiss them within the legal deadline, preferably within 30 days from the date of receipt of the refund request," he added. CBIC.

It is expected that during this special process, all GST refund claims, by May 14, will be dismissed by May 31, 2021.
Tax authorities will liaise with major trade and industry organizations (especially those that provide exporters and MSMEs) to assist and retain taxpayers, including the submission of required documents / responses by taxpayers (if a claim is pending for a document / required notice notice, etc.) .

The CBIC also asked taxpayers to ensure that communications with taxpayers are made through the GST port, or if necessary, by email using the official email address of that officer. All communications with taxpayers must be made via the GST portal, or if necessary, via email using the official official email ID.

Special Refund Disposal Drive should be widely known among businesses and industries. "It is urged that in these difficult times, all middle class taxpayers should strive to do their utmost to contribute to the fight against COVID-19, by eliminating the GST refunds pending on May 31, 2021," the CBIC said.
