The first case in the state was reported on May 20 from the Hamirpur region. A black fungus was found near the nose of a woman from the Khagar region, they stated. Three other reported cases came from Kangra and two from Solan, officials said.
Mucormycosis is caused by a group of fungi known as mucormycetes that occur naturally in nature. It spreads through the nose and affects other parts of the body, such as the eyes.
People with weakened immune systems due to Covid-19, diabetes, kidney disease, liver or heart disorders, age-related complications, or those receiving anti-retroviral treatment such as rheumatoid arthritis are more likely to develop mucormycosis.
When such patients are treated with steroids, their immune system becomes weaker, allowing the fungus to grow.
Therefore, India is currently recovering through the Second wave of the pandemic but Black, White and Yellow has created tension among the masses as the cases are keep on increasing. The big concern for the people is that the treatment of all these fungus costs a lot that a middle class person couldn't afford.
