Haryana police on Sunday lobbed the tear gas canisters to disperse a group of farmers protesting against CM Manohar Lal Khattar's visit to Hisar for the inauguration ceremony of Covid-19 Hospital. At least 20 police workers and a few farmers were injured in the clashes as confirmed by the high level officers.
Farmers
block Delhi-Chandigarh National Highway 44 at Bastara in Karnal,
Hisar-Chandigarh highway in Kaithal, Kurukshetra-Pehowa-Paitala,
Kurukshetra-Kaithal, NH-44 on the Ambala-Patiala border, NH-73 on the
Ambala-Yamunanagar highway in Karnal, Panipat and Shahbad, two hours from 5pm
to 7pm, forcing authorities to divert traffic connecting vehicles.
“Why did the
CM have to visit Hisar to inaugurate the hospital, he could have done it
virtually,” questions Haryana Bharat Kisan Union (Charuni) president, Gurnam
Singh Charuni.
“The police
resorted to lathicharge and used tear gas shells, besides using plastic bullets
to disperse the farmers in Hisar. Many farmers received injuries,” Charuni
stated that although the state had banned the gathering, hundreds of people
were allowed to gather at the launch of the hospital.
At least 20
police personnel, including five women, were injured in an altercation with a
farmer and Hisar farmers, officials stated.
Khattar inaugurated
a newly built 500-bed hospital, Chaudhary Devi Lal Sanjeevani Covid19 Hospital
in Hisar and farmers attacked the CM over the three farm laws, but the farmers
were stopped by the police before they could reach the area.
Thus, the farmers
and the political parties must ensure the public safety as the situation is
very harsh in the country as thousands of people are dying every day since the beginning
of the second wave of the Pandemic.
