Election Commission of India moves to the Apex Court over the derogatory remarks by the Madras High Court. Madras High Court castigated the Election Commission of India over the failure to maintain the Covid-19 protocol in the Election campaign.
Earlier, Madras High Court said in their statement that it will probably be booked under murder charges if the poll watchdog fails to hold the situation and found singularly responsible for the rise in the Covid-19 cases. The Madras High Court came down heavily on the EC for not stopping the political parties in the election campaigns or rallies for violating the Covid19 protocols and also threatened to stop the counting of poll votes on May 2.
The plea filed by the Election Commission is scheduled for hearing on May 3 by a special bench constituting Justice DY Chandrachud and MR Shah. The Election commission stated in their statement that the appeal is made against the “uncalled for, blatantly disparaging and derogatory” remarks made by the Madras High Court.
Therefore, the remarks made by the Madras High Court are derogatory or not is a matter of question for the Supreme Court to discuss and give an unbiased decision upon that. The people need to understand the meaning behind the Madras High Court’s statement.
