 Deep-seated depression in the Arabian Sea has escalated into a major hurricane Tauktae and is likely to cross the Gujarat coast between Porbandar and Naliya on May 18, India's Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Saturday.

It said Tauktae would be the strongest hurricane from May 16-18.

In a report released at 1:45 PM, IMD said, "It (Tauktae) is likely to intensify into a severe storm within the next six hours and be the strongest storm in the next 12 hours. There is a good chance you will move northwest again. crossed the Gujarat coast between Porbandar and Naliya on May 18 / afternoon. "

Both Institutions and provinces were preparing to deal with the storm that had already formed over the Arabian Sea for a few days now.

Later in the day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will hold a special meeting to review preparations for Hurricane Tauktae, according to government sources.

The National Disaster Response Team has increased from 53 to 100 the number of teams set up to respond after a hurricane.

The Central Water Commission has also issued a limited warning for the imminent danger in the wetlands in central and northern Kerala, which connects the southern and southern seas of Karnataka.

Government agencies in Goa have put in place necessary measures to address the situation due to a warning about Hurricane Tauktae.

According to IMD, Konkan and Goa are expected to experience heavy or very heavy rains on May 15 and 16. The Goa Fire and Emergency Services said they had kept their staff ready to deal with the situation.

Maharashtra Prime Minister Uddhav Thackeray has instructed authorities in the coastal states to remain vigilant and well-equipped to deal with the situation.
