DRDO Lab has Developed COVID-19 Antibody Detection-based kit DIPCOVAN: Know it Here

The DRDO stated that the kit has been developed in collaboration with Vanguard Diagnostics Pvt Ltd, a Delhi-based development and manufacturing diagnostics company.

A laboratory of the Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO) has developed a COVID-19 antibody detection-based kit called DIPCOVAN.

The kit can detect the coronavirus spike as well as the nucleocapsid protein of the virus. DRDO stated, "The kit can detect the spike as well as the nucleocapsid (S & N) protein of SARS-CoV-2 virus, which has a high sensitivity of 97% and specificity of 99%."

The DRDO stated that the kit has been developed in collaboration with Vanguard Diagnostics Pvt Ltd, a Delhi-based development and manufacturing diagnostics company. It was developed indigenously by scientists, followed by extensive validation on more than 1,000 patient samples at various Kovid hospitals in Delhi.

DRDO further stated that three batches of the product were validated during the last year, adding that the antibody detection kit has been approved by the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) in April this year.

"In May 2021, the product received regulatory approval from DCGI, CDSCO, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare to manufacture it for sale and distribution," it said.

Union Defense Minister Rajnath Singh and Health Minister Dr. Harsh Vardhan on Monday released the first batch of DRDO's anti-covid drug 2-deoxy-D-glucose (2-DG). The drug has been developed in collaboration with Dr. Reddy's Laboratories, Hyderabad, and earlier this month permitted emergency use by the Drugs Controller General of India.
