The quake affected all 12 districts and towns in Dali Bai Autonomous Prefecture, with Yangbi the worst hit.

At least three people were killed and 27 others injured in an earthquake near the Yangbi Yi Autonomous County quake in China's Yunnan province on Friday, local authorities said.

The quake was reported in all districts and 12 cities in Dali Bai Autonomous Prefecture, with Yangbi the main victim, Yang Guozong, head of the ruling Communist Party of China (CPC) region.

Two people were reported dead in Yangbi district and one in Yongping County.

Three people were seriously injured and 24 others sustained minor injuries, state media Xinhua reported. An estimated 72 317 residents of 20,192 households were affected by the quake.

A magnitude 5.0 earthquake shook Yangbi from 9 a.m. to 11 p.m. (Beijing Time), according to China Earthquake Networks Center. The region has recorded 166 earthquakes since 2 p.m. Rescue workers have been dispatched, and rescue efforts are under way. However, no deaths have been reported after a 7.4-magnitude earthquake struck northwestern China's Qinghai province on Saturday, Xinhua quoted local officials as saying.

The quake struck Maduo County of Golog Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture in the province at 2:04 p.m. Saturday’s event is Beijing, according to China Earthquake Networks Center (CENC).

The quake was felt by residents of the provincial capital Xining, 385 kilometers (385 miles) from the Maduo district seat.

The epicenter was viewed at 34.59 degrees north latitude and 98.34 degrees longitude. The quake struck a distance of 10 miles [17 km].

To date there have been no reports of injuries and collapsed housing in the normal use of power and telecommunications, local officials reported. However, sections of highways and bridges have seen falls in the quake zone, which has impeded traffic. Well-equipped rescue teams were sent to the quake.

At an altitude of 4,000 feet [4,200 m], Maduo County is located on the site of the Yellow River basin with numerous rivers and lakes.

Over the past five years, about 25 earthquakes with an average of 3 or more earthquakes occurred about 200 miles from the site, the largest of which took place on Saturday, show CENC details.
