Elon Musk, Neuralink will enable paralyzed people to use smartphone with their mind

Neuralink aims to improve Link continuously to help people with neurological problems and disabilities. It could be used to restore physical mobility, noted the company.

Elon Musk's Neuralink develops a fully integrated, brain machine (BMI) interface with the aim of helping people with disabilities use their brains to control devices and even their legs in the future.

On Twitter on Friday, Musk said, "The first Neuralink product will enable a disabled person to use a smartphone with their mind faster than someone who uses thumbs up."

A California company said on a blog it wants people with disabilities to directly use their neural function to use computers and mobile devices faster and easier. It will enable them to communicate easily via text, follow their curiosity on the web, express their ingenuity through photography and art, and play video games, the company noted.

"The latest versions will be able to block signals from the neuralinks in the brain to the neuralinks in the body / sensory clusters, thus allowing, for example, the disabled to be able to walk again," Musk said in the following tweet.

Musk's tweets came after Neuralink introduced a macaque monkey, named Pager, playing a video game 'pong' with his mind, called "MindPong" by the company. Pager was installed on two Neuralink devices, one on the left motor motor cortex, which controls the movement of the right side of the body, and the other on the right motor motor cortex, which controls the left side of the body, the company explains.

The brain-generating company used its 1,024 electrode fully integrated into a recording and data transfer device, called the N1 Link. "MindPong is the first sign of N1 Link's potential capabilities," the company said.

Neuralink aims to improve Link continuously to help people with neurological problems and disabilities. It could be used to restore physical mobility, noted the company. "To achieve this, we could use Link to learn signals from the brain and use it to regenerate nerves and muscles in the body, thus allowing a person to regain control of body organs," he explains.

Finally, Neuralink seeks to “build a safe and efficient BMI clinic that is wireless and fully planted so that users can work on their own and take it wherever they go.

“This machine is fitted with a hood and is charged off the cord, so it looks and feels normal,” Musk said.
