Delhi Lockdown: Delhi recorded 357 deaths in the last 24 hours, highest ever in a day. More than 24,000 fresh cases were reported. The positivity rate stood at 32.27 per cent.

Delhi is likely to extend the lockdown for another week as the city's health care system is under increasing pressure from unprecedented cases of coronavirus cases, sources said.

An extension order may be issued by the Delhi Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) today.

Last week, Prime Minister Arvind Kejriwal announced a six-day closure until Monday, calling for the city's resources to be cut short in the wake of the Covid crisis. "If we do not force it now, we may be facing a crisis. The government will take full care of you. We have taken this difficult decision considering the situation," Mr Kejriwal said.

As top hospitals in Delhi continue to send SOS messages on oxygen shortages, Mr Kejriwal last night lodged a complaint with all senior ministers in a tweet. "I am writing to all CMs asking them to provide oxygen in Delhi, if they have it. Although the Central government is also assisting us, the corona's difficulty is that all available resources are not visible," he wrote.

Delhi recorded 357 deaths in the last 24 hours, the largest ever. More than 24,000 new cases have been reported. The positive rate stands at 32.27 percent.

In the latest cases, payments to the national capital have risen to more than 10 lakhs and the death toll stands at 13,898.

The alarming increase in conditions has put the city's health care system under a lot of pressure. Twenty-five people died on Friday night at Jaipur Golden Hospital in Delhi due to a lack of oxygen, a senior hospital official said.

On the same day, at Sir Ganga Ram Hospital Delhi, 25 others died; the hospital told NDTV that it was unclear how many due to oxygen shortages, but emphasized that the problem was real.

During a hospital hearing on the oxygen crisis, the Delhi High Court on Saturday uttered harsh words. If anyone obstructs the supply of oxygen, "we will hang the person," the Delhi High Court said.

The court also questioned the facility's readiness to deal with Covid's second wave.

"We call it a wave, it's actually a Tsunami," the court said, asking the Center about infrastructure readiness, hospitals, medical staff, medicine, vaccines and oxygen as peak day.
