Nashik oxygen leak: Around 31 patients out of 80 who need oxygen have been shifted to other hospitals.
Twenty-two COVID-19 patients died today due to a shortage of oxygen in Nashik, the regional collector stated, after an oxygen tank leaked out of a hospital in the city of Maharashtra causing the oxygen supply to be suspended for about 30 minutes.
"According to current information, 22 people have died as a result of disruption of oxygen supply at Zakir Hussain municipal hospital," regional collector Suraj Mandhare stated.
All victims were present in the ventilators and needed regular oxygen supply. Zakir Hussain Hospital is a dedicated center for Covid. About 150 patients relied on oxygen or ventilators.
Maharashtra Health Minister Rajesh Tope has promised the government that it will look into the matter and conduct a thorough investigation.
"According to the information available to us, patients who used to use respirators at Nashik Hospital have died. Leaks have been detected in the oxygen tank that supplied oxygen to these patients. Disrupted purchases could be linked to hospital deaths," said Mr Tope.
"We will issue a statement later after the investigation is over," he added.

Defense Minister Rajnath Singh wrote on Twitter words of condolence after the accident.
Minister of State Aaditya Thackeray called the incident unfortunate and promised to investigate the matter.
"The accident at Zakir Hussain Hospital is very unfortunate. We are all sharing the plight of all these families. Defense Minister Chagan Bhujbal and all officials are in contact with Prime Minister Uddhav Thackeray. This tragic incident will be investigated," she tweeted. in Marathi.
Shiv Sena leader Priyanka Chaturvedi also tweeted condolences.
"This is a great tragedy, I feel very sorry for the families of the deceased. I have no words to express my grief, this is very disturbing to read," reads his tweet.
Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader Majeed Memon tweeted that people responsible for the leak should be punished.
"Oxygen leak in the Nasik tank has resulted in the loss of many liters of oxygen and panic at the hospital. Those responsible for negligence should be identified and punished," Mr Memon tweeted.
