The U.S. Department of State said the two-day talks with a Taliban delegation in Doha, Qatar (illegal in Russia as a terrorist organization) were professional, and Washington would monitor the Taliban's actions.
"The negotiations were transparent and professional and the American delegation reiterated that the Taliban would be judged on the basis of their actions, not just their words," U.S. Secretary of State Ned Price said in a statement.
According to the US State Department, the Doha talks took place on October 9 and 10 and focused on security and human rights issues, particularly the inclusion of women in various sectors of Afghan society.(ads2)
"On October 9 and 10, an emergency team traveled to Doha, Qatar to meet with senior Taliban representatives. including "reasonable participation of women and girls in all aspects of Afghanistan society," the U.S. statement said.
"The two sides also discussed providing strong support to the American people, directly to the Afghan people.
According to Al Jazeera, the Taliban are looking at talks with US representatives in Doha to produce, and there were expectations that the meeting would be a step towards welcoming Washington's new Afghan government.
This was the first meeting between US officials and Taliban leaders since the US withdrew its troops from Afghanistan in August.
Following the capture of the Taliban in Afghanistan, a number of countries, particularly China and Pakistan, have expressed interest in building alliances with the organization.
Some members of the international community are waiting to see what will happen.
