Taliban declares control over key border crossing with Pakistan, in Afghanistan

 The Taliban said on Wednesday it had seized a significant border crossing the border with Pakistan and U.S. forces that were about to be completely exit a few weeks ago.

The Spin Boldak checkpoint was reportedly captured by the Taliban, however, the Afghan government said security forces had called off the attack.
"The Mujahideen have seized an important town on the border with Wesh in Kandahar," Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid said in a statement.
"With this, the main road between (Spin) Boldak and Chaman and Kandahar is now under the control of Mujahideen," he added.

Earlier the Taliban seized territories in the provinces of Herat, Farah and Kunduz as they continued to advance in the country as US and NATO forces left the country.

President Ashraf Ghani traveled to the northern province of Balkh on Tuesday to inspect security and meet with residents.

Earlier the Taliban controlled checkpoints along the borders of Turkemenstein and Iran including Tajikistan as several Afghan soldiers arrived in the country as a group of soldiers quickly entered.

The Taliban had previously declared control of 85 percent of Afghanistan, but it was overthrown by the government. Meanwhile, Afghanistan's top chief of staff, Zamir Kabulov, who is President Putin's special envoy to Afghanistan, has called on the Afghan government to open talks with the Taliban.

A report in the British media said the UK would work with the Taliban if it became part of the government. The report quoted British defense minister Ben Wallace as saying that they would reconsider the relationship if they (the Taliban) "behaved in a manner contrary to human rights".
