Nepali Congress president Sher Bahadur Deuba on Tuesday became the country's next prime minister for the fifth time, media reports said.
President Bidya Devi Bhandari appointed him in accordance with Article 76 (5) of the Constitution, reports The Himalayan Times.
This is the fifth time the 74-year-old Deuba has returned to power as Nepal's prime minister.
His appointment is in line with a Supreme Court ruling on Monday that he applied for the post of Prime Minister, instead of K Sharma Oli.
The presidency informed Deuba of his appointment, the report said.
It is unknown at this time what he will do after leaving the post.(ads2)
Previously, Deuba has served as Prime Minister of Nepal four times since June 2017 February 2018, June 2004 February 2005, July 2001October 2002 and September 1995 March March 1997.
Deuba is required to seek a vote of confidence in the House within 30 days of his appointment as Prime Minister, in accordance with the constitution.
The Supreme Court on Monday overturned Prime Minister Oli's decision on May 21 to dissolve the House of Representatives and ordered the appointment of Deuba as Prime Minister.
The five-member Constitutional Bench, chaired by Chief Justice Cholendra Shumsher Rana, said Oli's application for the new prime minister was unconstitutional.
To renovate the House again - the court reclaimed the House in early February 23 after Oli dissolved it on December 20 - the bench ordered that arrangements be made for a meeting of the House at 5:00 on July 18.
Accordingly, the constitutional bench said President Bandari's decision to reject Deuba's request for a new government was unconstitutional.
