The Pakistani minister says an investigation into allegations of kidnapping the daughter of an Afghan ambassador has found that there is no evidence that she was abducted.
Earlier, Afghanistan's foreign ministry suspected that the embassy's daughter, Silsila Alikhil, was traveling in a taxi when she was abducted and detained for hours. The department also said he was "severely tortured by unknown individuals" during his arrest.
However, to hurt the strained relations between the two countries, Pakistan's interior minister Sheikh Rashid said, "there is no kidnapping case."(ads2)
Reportedly, Pakistani authorities scanned 700-hour CCTV footage and searched about 200 taxis, but found no evidence that Silsila Alikhil was abducted in Islamabad.
He also pointed out that the incident was used as a way to "pollute the country". He also said there was a difference in Silsila Alikhil's account and the findings of Pakistan.
"Pakistan will not back down in this case, even if there is a big difference between him (and the claim) and our findings," Rashid said.
Authorities have urged Silsila Alikhil to come forward and assist in the investigation.
Since the incident, Afghanistan has remembered its ambassador to the country citing "security threats". Islamabad, however, has backtracked and said Kabul's action is deeply hurtful.
