"... the results of the project have laid an important foundation and technical platform for follow-up research on the origin, epidemic, and mechanism of COVID-19 infection," said the Chinese Academy of Sciences.

A study by the Wuhan Institute of Virology also contributed to the detection of the coronavirus and the development of COVID-19 vaccines, according to the school.

Dr. Zhengli, the director of the lab, has been accused of conducting "gain-of-function" (GOF) research, in which scientists are increasing the capacity of the virus to better analyze its effects on biologists.

Many scientists think the coronavirus came out of Dr. Zhengli's lab.

Dr Zhengli denied all allegations of breach in the laboratory, adding, "How can I bring evidence to the world of something without evidence?"
