South Korean nuclear institute Hacked By North Korea based hacking Group

Cyber ​​criminals from North Korea allegedly forcibly entered a South Korean nuclear research facility last month, media reported.

South Korea's opposition People Power Party said 13 unauthorized IP addresses were accessing the Korean Atomic Energy Research Institute's (KAERI) internal network and some IP addresses could return to Kimss, a North Korean espionage group, reports ZDNet.

According to the US Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency, Kimsuky may have been tasked by the North Korean government with a global intelligence gathering.

The group also attacked South Korean buildings earlier.

The South Korean science department said on June 18 it was investigating the breakdown of a state nuclear research facility following the failure of an internal network last month.

An official from the Department of Science and ICT said the Korean Atomic Energy Research Institute network was repeatedly broken between May 14-31.

The department said the center had taken security measures, such as setting up a private network and blocking the attackers' Internet address.

The science department said in a statement that it was currently looking into the severity of the hacking incident and the source of the attack.
