Philippines suspendes Nurses From Working Abroad as Limit Is Reached
The Philippine government has suspended the deployment of nurses overseas, along with their assistants and other staff because the annual limit of 5,000 employed health workers has been reached.
The review of medical staff permits has been suspended immediately, said Bernard Olalia, head of the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration, in a June 1 statement posted on the organization's website.
The Philippines, which sends thousands of medical staff overseas to work each year, seeks to strengthen its health care system as local cases of coronavirus rise. The nation added 6,955 cases on Saturday, bringing the total to more than 1.2 million.
Health workers who have been issued with employment certificates to work overseas will still be allowed to leave, according to a statement.
