Pakistan will ‘absolutely not’ allow bases to US for action in Afghanistan: PM Imran

Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan has explicitly stated that Pakistan "will not" consent to any of the bases and the use of its territory in the US in any form of action within Afghanistan.

"Not at all. There is no way that we will allow any bases, any kind of action from the Pakistani region to Afghanistan. Not at all, ”the prime minister told Axios in an HBO interview.

In a part of the interview, which was to be broadcast on Sunday, on the Axios website, his interviewer Jonathan Swan had asked, “Would you allow the US government to have the CIA here in Pakistan to make Al-Qaeda, ISIS or Taliban? ”

Surprised by his clear answer, “No”, his interlocutor interrupted the prime minister to confirm his remarks, “Determined?”

Axios at HBO is a news program that includes reporting on Axios journalists and HBO filmmakers' expertise to explore technical, media, business and political conflicts.

The series featured interviews with former US President Donald Trump, Sundar Photosi, Elon Musk, Mary Barra, former US President Joe Biden, Andrew Yang and Kamala Harris, among others.

Recently, in his address to the Senate, Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi decided that it was possible to provide military bases in the United States for counter-terrorism activities in Afghanistan.

He denied it as baseless reports of this and made it clear that the government would never provide military bases in the US, and would not allow a drone attack within Pakistan.

At a Cabinet meeting, Information Minister Chaudhry Fawad Hussain also ruled out the possibility of any American airport in Pakistan claiming that all these facilities are operated by Pakistan itself.

He said it was the PTI-led government that abolished the ‘drone surveillance’ facility provided to the US earlier.

“All airbases used in Pakistan. At the moment, no negotiations in this regard are ongoing as Pakistan will not provide any airbase to any other country, ”he said.
