As Indian companies prepare to produce the Russian Sputnik V anti-Covid vaccine to meet the country's growing needs, Russian President Vladimir Putin on Saturday said Russia was the only country in the world ready to export technology and increase production abroad, and noted that the vaccine was sold in 66 countries.

Russian president's remarks came a day after New Delhi officials said the Serum Institute of India had obtained first approval from the country's drug regulator for the production of Sputnik V.

Already India's pharma company, Dr Reddy's Laboratories, in April, 2021 received an Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) for a Russian vaccine. And Panacea Biotec in partnership with the Russian economy fund RDIF has started producing the Sputnik V vaccine in India.

Denying allegations about the effectiveness of the Sputnik V vaccine, Russia's president while working with senior editors of major international news organizations, including the Press Trust of India, the Associated Press and Reuters, said delays in obtaining a registration drug in Europe were due to "competitive struggle" and "trade interests". there.

With China blaming other countries, especially the US, for the COVID-19 epidemic, Mr Putin said there had been a lot of talk about the issue, stressing that the problem should not be "politically motivated".

He was responding to a question about the cause of the COVID-19 epidemic.

Last week, US President Joe Biden announced that he had ordered an investigation into the origins of COVID-19 amid allegations that a coronavirus had appeared in a laboratory in the Chinese city of Wuhan in which former US President Donald Trump demanded a fine from Asia. "death and destruction" caused it.

"A lot has been said about this, so it seems to me that a lot of comments about this would be in vain. I don't think I can say anything new or interesting," Mr. Putin said through an interpreter.

Recognizing the existence of a competitive struggle against Sputnik V, Putin said, "in 66 countries, we sell our vaccine, it is a huge market for us. I am convinced that these allegations are due to commercial reasons but we follow human motives."
