Ludhiana police are currently facing a major shortage of space at the police station, forcing them to dispose of hundreds of vehicles and other items tied to the side of the road.
At least 4,000 vehicles collect rust at police stations and police stations in Division Number 8, Division Number 5, Tibba, Jamalpur, Moti Nagar and Sadar.
On May 31 at Basti Jodhewal police station, 45 vehicles, which had been dumped on the side of the road, caught fire.
According to police personnel, they can only dispose of vehicles and other documents after the sentencing of related cases in the courts.
An official working at the station, on condition of anonymity, said some of the vehicles, which had been abandoned for 30 years, were completely damaged, but would not be discarded as the charges were under the jurisdiction of the judges.
Another SHO said that sometimes people did not return to their cars because of the lack of paperwork, or because the car was old or they had taken a claim from insurance companies.
At Unit 5 police station, Mahindra Scorpio and a Hyundai 20 were dumped on the side of the road outside the station. The vehicles were seized on March 25 from Gurdev Nagar in an attempt to assassinate him. The police had broken the tires so no one would steal them.
By October 2020, police had recovered 239 vehicles, 213 cellphones and 7 6.74 lakh in cash from people at the superdari to create space.
Police Commissioner Rakesh Agrawal said they were working to return the vehicles to their owners.
