US President Joe Biden has ordered the withdrawal of all US forces from Afghanistan by this year's 20th anniversary of the September 11 attacks that triggered the invasion.

"The visit of President Ghani and Dr. Abdullah Abdullah will highlight the lasting relationship between the United States and Afghanistan as the war continues," spokeswoman Jen Psaki said in a statement on Sunday.(ads2)
As U.S. troops prepare to meet the September 11 deadline, the Taliban are fighting daily battles with government forces and claiming to have captured 40 states.
Growing fear and uncertainty about the future has left many Afghans eager to leave, including thousands of men and women who fear retaliation for working with foreign forces.
The Taliban said on Sunday they remained committed to peace talks but insisted that the "real Islamic system" in Afghanistan was the only way to end the war and secure rights - including for women.
Negotiations between the forces and the Afghan government have been shut down for months and violence has erupted across the country since May when US troops began withdrawing for the last time.
