The Tamil Nadu government is canceling 12 provincial board exams and says a committee will be set up to decide on students' marks.

The Tamil Nadu government on Saturday announced the cancellation of the Grade 12 provincial board exams and said a committee would be set up to decide on the marks.

Prime Minister K Stalin, while announcing this, called on Prime Minister Narendra Modi to cancel all national entrance exams such as the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) and allow Tamil Nadu to fill professional seats including MBBS based on grade 12 marks only.

The government said the decision to suspend the board's inspections was based on the ongoing increase in the second wave of COVID-19 in several parts of Tamil Nadu and the possibility of a third wave.

After consulting with stakeholders, including teachers, teachers and medical professionals, Stalin said "the 12th phase board examination this year has been canceled," adding that the decision was taken in the interests of students.

A committee will be set up led by the Principal Secretary of the Department of Education at the School to decide on the marks and according to its recommendation, marks will be awarded, according to the official release.

Only such marks will be the basis for admission to college courses, he said. Explaining the reasons for the cancellation of the exams, the government pointed out that students under the age of 18 could not be vaccinated and allowing everyone to write the exams simultaneously could increase the chances of the virus spreading and reversing the test was also not an option.

Meanwhile, in a letter to the Prime Minister, Stalin informed him of a government that was abolishing its board exams and set up a team to develop student assessment and marking systems. "Admission to the arts, arts and sciences in our province will be based on the marks awarded to students." Decisions were made to maintain student safety and to address concerns raised by a large proportion of teachers, teachers, parents and medical staff, he said.

In view of the epidemic and anxiety, he said taking tests to enter the national level in any technical subjects could be a serious threat to the health and well-being of students. "I therefore urge you to cancel all national entrance exams such as NEET, because the same reasons for canceling Class 12 board exams apply equally to entrance exams. Our country can be allowed to fill all professional seats including MBBS seats, on the basis of class marks. "Only 12, as we have always emphasized. I am sure you will appreciate the fairness of my request, and will take good care of it," he said.

Himachal Pradesh, Karnataka, Odisha and Haryana are among the provinces that have canceled state board exams. The institute on June 1 decided to cancel CBSE Class 12 board exams amid ongoing ongoing COVID-19 disease nationwide.
