India yesterday unveiled the free COVID-19 vaccine to all adults in an effort to strengthen its interest, as Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched International Yoga Day by praising the "protective" properties of the practice for the virus.
India's vaccination campaign has plummeted in recent months due to a shortage of vaccines and people's reluctance to get vaccinated, as the country battled a sharp increase in cases in April and last month that undermined the health system in many areas.
The number of cases has plummeted and the authorities have lifted further restrictions, sparking fears of another wave.
The government on May 1 increased the supply of prescription drugs for all adults aged 45 and under, but hospitals and private hospitals had to buy and buy prices themselves in the younger group, which led to confusion and shortages.
However, the Indian government later changed its approach, announced that it would receive 75 percent of the vaccine and distribute the doses to the provinces so that they could vaccinate people for free.

"The immunization campaign is expected to accelerate now ... Daily immunizations have taken over the past week and are expected to intensify," community health expert Rajib Dasgupta told reporters. "However, the existing inequalities and doubts require serious attention to make this a success."
The free release came as Modi commented on the annual Yoga Day event in a morning speech to the nation when Indians emerged from the campaign, saying the practice had also proven itself to be a source of "inner strength."
“When I spoke to former heroes, they told me to use yoga as a protection against their coronavirus. Doctors have strengthened themselves with yoga and used yoga to treat their patients, ”said Modi.
