YouTube's Alphabet Inc (GOOGL.O) on Tuesday announced a $ 100 million fund to compensate content creators for hit hits in Shorts, as YouTube aims to add more prosecutors.

The fund will launch in the coming months and pay the creators this year and 2022, YouTube said.

Investment comes as the platforms rush to attract new creators who build more fans - and more profit - by recording short comedy sketches and dances. The Viral TikTok app has also developed a trend for short video clip formats and has quickly copied to other apps such as Facebook's (FB.O) Instagram's Reels, Snapchat (SNAP.N) Spotlight and YouTube Shorts.

YouTube said the new fund will pay thousands of creators each month for their Shorts videos to get more engagement from viewers.

The video streaming site has added that it will begin testing ads in Shorts.

As the market for short video features is becoming more and more crowded, platforms have used creator funds as a way to introduce more users.

TikTok launched the creators' fund in July and later increased its revenue to $ 1 billion in the United States in three years.
