The Seychelles, which has more of its Covid-19 population than any other country, has seen more than twice as many active cases per week as of May 7, raising concerns that transfusions do not help change the situation elsewhere.

The World Health Organization has stated that immunization cannot be determined without a thorough examination and that it is effective in diagnosing the condition.

Kate O'Brien, director of the WHO Department of Immunization, Medicines and Biologicals, told a forum on Monday that the body was in direct contact with the Seychelles and that more detailed tests were needed, such as viruses and cases.

The East African Islands Department of Health said on Monday the number of active cases had more than doubled since last week to 2,486, with 37% of those receiving two doses of vaccines. Cases were also rising in the Maldives, another island nation of the Indian Ocean which is a popular tourist destination.

In the Seychelles, Sinopharm tablets were given to 57% of those completely vaccinated and the rest by Covishield, a vaccine made in India under the license of AstraZeneca Plc. As of May 8, no one had worked for Covid when he was vaccinated against the deceased, the Seychelles News Agency quoted the foreign minister as saying.

The Seychelles, a group of tropical archipelagoes, last week also imposed restrictions including closing schools, canceling sporting events and preventing city mixes.

The country has been rushing to vaccinate its fewer than 100,000 people - first with a price tag from China's Sinopharm and then a gift from Covishield, to re-open it to tourists who are the lifeblood of its economy.

Daniel Lucey, a professor of medicine at the Dartmouth Geisel School of Medicine, said on a blog post last week that genetic information was not yet available for diagnosis in the Seychelles in April.

However, version B.1.351, which was first identified in South Africa late last year, was discovered in the Seychelles in February, he said. The AstraZeneca vaccine proved to be less effective compared to other variables in the study, and South Africa instituted plans to use those vaccines.

Comparisons between Sinopharm, Covishield and uninfected people infected with coronavirus can be made using genetic sequence and sensitive data for their infection, Lucey said.

The Maldives cases, which saw an increase in tourism by wealthy Indians, were also shot. The country has the latest cases against 100,000 people in the last five, seven and 14 days. Operating cases jumped from 4,978 to 9,423 on May 9.

As of May 8, more than 300,000 people in the Maldives had received at least one vaccine and 35% of the population had received two, according to the Health Protection Agency. The country used Sinopharm and Covishield.

The positive results of the Greater Male test, near the capital of the Maldives, are almost 60% complete. As of May 7, the government has closed down gymnasiums and cinemas and imposed a curfew from 9pm to 4am, the agency said.

The government now wants those who arrive on the islands, including those who have been vaccinated, to be tested for a negative Covid-19 four days before their departure.
