TN CM Stalin writes and urged Rajnath to take action over missing of 16 fisherman

MK Stalin

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin on Sunday called on the Defense Minister's "immediate intervention" to locate 16 missing fishermen off the coast of Mangalore during Hurricane Tauktae leading to severe storms in the Arabian Sea and surrounding areas last week.

While the 12 fishers belonged to Tamil Nadu, the remaining four came from West Bengal.

Officials say the mechanized fishing boat Ajmeer Sha, registered in Kerala, was coming from the Beypore fishing port in Kerala on May 5.
"It has been informed that after the Tauktae cyclone, there has been no contact with the crew of this boat," Stalin stated in the letter Rajnath.

The government has previously asked the Marine Rescue Coordination Center (MRCC), east, west and the Indian Coast Guard Cochin station to search for and rescue the fishermen but so far nothing has been written about them.

"This has created anxiety and grief for families and fishing communities in the province," said Stalin, urging the defense minister to "intervene immediately" and "take immediate action" to rescue lost fishermen.

The letter comes a day after the families of missing fishermen in Tamil Nadu wrote to the chief minister's of the states, Kerala and West Bengal, seeking help on this issue.
