Myanmar junta has announced a military rule in a Chin State city after accusing "armed terrorists" of assaulting a police station and a bank, the country's media reported on Friday, during clashes between soldiers and ethnic rebels at the border.

In the face of widespread opposition, the junta has struggled to keep the peace amid daily protests in urban areas and fighting in border areas since the overthrow of elected leader Aung San Suu Kyi to end steps to try for democracy.

The riots in the city of Mindat on Wednesday and Thursday involved about 100 people using machine guns to attack a police station and about 50 were heading for Myanmar Economic Bank, the State Myanmar News Agency reported.

It said security forces had dismissed the attack without injuries.

An article announcing the introduction of military law in the Chin State border on the Indian border has been published in Myanmar's Global New Light, a state-run newspaper.

Reuters could not independently confirm state media reports on the situation in Mindat.

But a document posted on social media by local media claiming it came from an anti-junta state in the Mindat area said the declaration of military law was illegal.

It also claimed that the war was caused by the military breaking a promise to free seven civilians detained during recent protests.

A spokesman for the Chinland Defense Force, a newly formed military force, said it was behind the recent war and confirmed the authenticity of the document.

"They can no longer control the city except in some areas where they have bases. They can no longer control the rural areas," said a spokesman, who said one soldier had been killed in the army and disputes were ongoing. and the army brings reinforcement.

A spokesman for the municipality could not be reached for comment.

In another sign of continued contempt for military rule, a video on social media showed Democrats chanting "We believe we will win, we must win, we must win" as they marched on the Myanmar shopping mall in Yangon on Friday.

With 788 people being brutally killed in security protests, according to the defense group, some supporters of the ousted government demanded military training with rebels assigned to soldiers for decades in border regions.

Reuters is unable to independently verify the casualties and the military has imposed restrictions on the media, internet services and satellite broadcasts.

Fighting has intensified in some border areas since February 1, when tribal forces intensified their attacks, attacked military bases, and lowered a helicopter.

Established last week by the National Unity Government in opposition to the general, the People's Defense Forces has called for support from long-standing armed groups who regard Dynamar as its arch-enemy.

They have been called up for military service since the coup d'état, with their troops attacking security forces and killing junta-appointed officers.
