The
Indian Medical Association (IMA) on Saturday criticized Yoga guru Ramdev for
his speech on allopathy and demanded that Union Health Minister Harsh Vardhan
be prosecuted under the Epidemic Diseases Act 1897 or accept his allegations
and end the modern medical facility.
"Enough
is enough," the IMA said, criticizing Ramdev for what he called "he
used the situation over and over again to intimidate the public by selling his
illegal drugs."
"When
such idolised personal are making vitriolic comments, questioning the authority
and integrity of the whole architecture of health ministry, the health
minister, who himself is a practicing modern medicine allopathic postgraduate
and the head of this ministry, should either accept the challenge and
accusation of this gentleman and dissolve the modern medicine facility or
boldly face and prosecute the person for his words of arson on the sovereignty
of the country and book him under the Epidemic Diseases Act to save millions of
people from such unscientific utterances," the statement of IMA to the
health minister.
The
top medical body attacked Ramdev with a video circulating on social media, in
which he said, 'Allopathy ek aisi stupid aur diwaliya science hai'. The IMA
also said it had called modern doctors "murderers" in front of the
health minister while dispensing his medication.
The
IMA also cited previous controversies surrounding Ramdev's Coronil and Swasari
drug and a criminal complaint lodged by social worker Tamanna Hashmi for
endangering people's lives to prove the negligence of a world-renowned drug
owner.
On
the Other hand, Pantanjali issued the statement and said that Baba Ramdev has “utmost regards” for the
doctors and medical staff who are working continuosly day and night against all
odds to protect people under these harsh circumstances. They further stated that
Ramdev has no ill will against the medical science and its practitioners.
Therefore,
the Ayurveda and Medical science both are essential for the human being to
survive as both works to protect the life and enhances its quality. Ayurveda has
its own benefits whereas Medical science is good at tackling the new age
problems. The Ayurveda and Medical science need to work together to serve people
rather fighting on each other’s ideology and research.
