Covid19 Outbreak shuts One of China’s Busiest Ports: Yantian Port

The Covid-19 outbreak has partially closed one of the world's busiest ports, a closure that could result in the already cost of shipping goods from China.

Yantian Port at the Shenzhen shipping and industrial center in southern China will not accept any containers that will be exported until Sunday May 30, according to a notice posted on Friday on Wechat. The harbor compartment of the harbor was partially closed last week following the outbreak of Covid-19 among port workers and the wider community, state media reported.

The disruption will continue until next week, when shipping company AP Moller-Maersk A / S reports delays in its plans due to its closure. Any delays are likely to put further pressure on China's already high export costs, which have risen sharply in demand for export exports, shortage of containers, and other items.

Those shipping costs are one of the factors that increase China's exports, threatening global inflation.

Yantian is one of the busiest ports in the world, with an average cargo capacity of 13.34 million per square meter by 2020, the standard used in the cargo industry, according to figures from the Shenzhen Transportation Bureau. It serves about 100 ships a week, according to a report on the Shenzhen government website.

The local government said in a Friday announcement it would conduct a mass test for the entire population of Yantian district.
