Buddha Purnima 2021: Buddha Jayanti will be celebrated on Wednesday, May 26 this year, which is also known as Buddha Purnima.  Buddha Purnima is celebrated on the day of Vaishakha Purnima.

It is believed that Lord Buddha was born on this day and after difficult meditation, there was also the attainment of enlightenment.

This festival is very special for those who believe in Hinduism and Buddhism. It is believed that Buddha was the 9th incarnation of Lord Shri Hari Vishnu.

History of buddha poornima

According to historians, Lord Buddha was born in Lumbini, near Kapilavastu, Nepal, in 563 BC.  Kapilavastu was the capital of Shakya Mahajanapada since that time.

Lumbini is currently the region of South Central Nepal. It was here that Emperor Ashoka built a pillar as a symbol of Lord Buddha in the third century BC.

Historians have also stated that the Buddha belonged to the Shakya gotra and his real name was Siddhartha.

His father's name was Shuddhodhana, who was the head of Shakya Gana and mother's name was Maya Devi. Siddhartha died 7 days after his mother's death.  After this Siddharth was raised by his step-mother Prajapati Gautami.

The founder of the Buddha religion is Mahatma Buddha himself. He underwent rigorous penance and cultivation for years, after which he attained enlightenment under the Bodhi tree in Bodh Gaya, attaining enlightenment.

Then, with his knowledge, he illuminated the whole world.  Finally he died on Kusinagar on Vaisakh Purnima.

How Siddhartha became Lord Buddha

It is said that Lord Buddha took retirement at the age of just 29 years.

He underwent a difficult penance for 6 years under the Peepal tree in Bodh Gaya.  That Bodhivriksha is still located in Gaya district of Bihar.

The Buddha God gave his first sermon at Sarnath. Lord Buddha merged into Panchatatva on the day of Vaishakh Purnima in 483 BC. This day is called Parinirvana Day.

Why do you celebrate Buddha Purnima?

It was only when Buddha, the Lord, learned about violence, sin and death in his life that he abandoned the temptation and left his family and took up all the responsibilities and left in search of truth.

After which he came to know the truth. The date of Vaishakh Purnima has a special connection with the major events of the life of Lord Buddha, so in Buddhism every Vaishakh Purnima is celebrated as Buddha Purnima.
