The Navy on Wednesday said its crew, fighting the worst weather, had so far rescued 184 of the 273 people aboard the P305, adding that all crew members on two other boats and the oil rig were safe after Hurricane Tauktae released the ships.

"As of Wednesday morning, 184 crew members of the P305 have been rescued and INS Kochi and INS Kolkata have returned to the port of Mumbai with the rescued.

"INS Teg, INS Betwa, INS Beas, P8I aircraft and Seaking helicopters continue their search and rescue operation," said a Navy spokesman.

All 137 crew members on the GAL Constructor were rescued Tuesday by the Navy and Coast Guard. The 196 crew on the SS-3 and 101 crew members on the Sagar Bhushan oil tanker are safe, an official said.

Offshore vessels hired by ONGC and SCI tow there for safety. INS Talwar is also in the area to assist with SAR ops, he added.
