A 17-year-old gunman was arrested and another was killed in the Russian city of Kazan

A gunshot was fired on May 11 in the Russian city of Kazan, leaving 11 people dead and four injured, Russian media reports RIA Novosti, citing paramedics.

There were conflicting reports on the situation, with some Russian news organizations reporting that two new gunmen were involved and others saying one was involved.

RIA said one gunman was arrested and said there was an explosion at the school. It was not immediately clear what caused the attack.

Meanwhile, a second shooter was killed at the school, TASS media quoted sources as saying.

Local officials say some children have been expelled from school but others remain in the building. Authorities say more security measures have been taken in all schools in Kazan, the capital of the Russian province of Tatarstan, about 440 miles (430 miles) east of Moscow.

Video footage shared on social media showed emergency vehicles parked outside the school, with people running into the building. Some videos show broken windows with debris outside.

Although school shootings are relatively rare in Russia, there have been a number of violent attacks on schools in recent years, mainly by students.
